RESOURCES

PARENT RESOURCES

Throughout this Portfolio I have provided links to numerous sites, articles, references and resources, in order to allow parents, educators, families, and peers to remain self-informed. I know that I like to see the research for myself, and in many cases find myself researching for hours in order to make an informed decision. My goal was to provide links to every source from which I found applicable material, sites of reference, informative sources, images, charts, etc. I wanted anyone who was in a place of inquisition to be able to look at the source itself beyond the information I had provided here.

The resources provided in this website will benefit all aforementioned audiences, from parents, to educators, to families, to peers. This is a work in progress and will be updated, as is the research currently being undertaken in the field of ASD. The advantages of the resources provided is that most of them come from informed sources rich with evidence-based research, or from universities or medical organizations who focus on autism research. The greatest disadvantage to the resources, is that much like technology, research in the field of autism is constantly changing and evolving and the material here may become outdated before it can be updated.

Through its strong chapter network, ASA has spearheaded numerous pieces of state and local legislation, including the 2006 Combating Autism Act, the first federal autism-specific law."

About The Arc Autism Now

Our Mission

The Arc is the largest national community-based organization advocating for and serving people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families. The National Autism Resource and Information Center will be a dynamic and interactive, highly visible and effective central point of quality resources and information for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and other developmental disabilities, their families, and other targeted key stakeholders.

I recommend The Arc Autism Now as an excellent resource for additional resources and supports based upon its vetting process for its posted resources and information, all of which go through a formal review process which must meet an established criteria before being shared with the community the organization caters to. This thorough process of accountability is important in order to steer parents and guardians and educators towards legitimate resources and information that will further the success and transition of individuals with ASD. The Arc Autism Now does not appear to be a charity and was not linked to the Charity Navigator.

About Operation Autism

Our Mission

Operation Autism is a web-based resource specifically designed and created to support military families that have children with autism. It is the shared product of the vision and energy of the Organization for Autism Research (OAR) and the funding support of the American Legion Child Welfare Foundation. OAR’s intent in developing this resource is to:

  • Provide military families touched by autism with access to quality, evidence-based information about the disorder,

  • Identify sources of treatment and support on and off base,

  • Offer tips for dealing with some of the unique challenges military life poses for military dependent children with autism and their families,

  • Inform parents about their child’s educational rights and offer some practical strategies for success in the classroom.

I recommend Operation Autism based upon its focus on providing resources specifically designed and created to support military families with children with autism. Supporting military families in all aspects of transition is something I am passionate about and providing resources directly geared towards those who serve our country is something I find to be quite important and valuable. Operation Autism does not appear to be a charity and was not linked to the Charity Navigator.
