SPED 860 Artifacts Introduction

SPED 860: Education of Children and Youth with Disabilities: Autism Spectrum Disorder

               Throughout this course, you have learned about methods and evidence-based practices recommended for students with ASD. In the final assignment for this course, you will use what you have learned over the past several months to add another page onto your PROFESSIONAL Portfolio - ASD Website which you are adding to your website about the main ideas presented in the class.

​

               You will use information from videos, course presentations/readings to create another webpage using WIX. The information on the page will cover the major concepts in this course.

​

               The "audience" for the presentation will be your colleagues, administrators, families, and/or others you may interact with interested in learning more about ASD. For certificate and MSE/ASD students, this will be the beginning of a running project you will continue to develop throughout the first four courses of the ASD sequence.

Web Page Components

Home Page: My Professional Portfolio 

      • Your background/setting – your name, professional experience, educational background, primary role, the reason for taking the class, and how course material is relevant to your setting/role, consider linking your resume (omit your home address/phone number) you can use a professional address and phone number

  • Link/Separate Page on the website (ASD Methods), author’s name, program, date, instructor

    • Key Terms & Concepts (from the course presentations, readings, etc.)

    • EBPs, Fads, Pseudoscience

    • The need for EBPs in ASD - Link to the EBPsLinks to an external site.

    •  Recommended EBPs (Academic Skills)

    •  Recommended EBPs (Social and/or Behavior Skills)

    • EBP demonstration (link videos from this class)

    • Student choice – What key constructs, skills, or relevant information covered in this class was significant/most resonated with you that has not already been covered in this presentation? Briefly explain.

    • Links to 5 different resources (related to the course content) for parents, educators, and families. Briefly describe in 3-5 sentences what the resource is about, what audience the resource might best appeal to as well as the advantages/disadvantages of this resource. Be sure to include the link with the relevant description which outlines the advantages/disadvantages of each source in your submitted assignment and transfer your information to the ASD resources spreadsheet (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Ab4JKYFLRR6LzhQVPk2TOlu7YW9noYkMqji9zi6haYw/edit#gid=0Links to an external site.)

    • APA citations/references

  • Point of Emphasis: Do not attach any videos except the videos of you working with others to demonstrate strategies/skills. 

To begin your portfolio (you must submit a link to your portfolio in order for your instructors to begin assessing your work). You will use WixLinks to an external site. to create your website.

Keep in mind that your information should be both informative and reader-friendly. Minimize the number of words. Font size should be at a minimum of 14 points. Use color and make your presentation interesting to view. Use pictures/video clips or other to entice your audience to pay attention! DO NOT USE more than one video per page; videos must be less than 5 minutes

For those whose lasting legacy is nothing more than a simple star etched into a white wall.
